Initiative for Affordable Housing requires many helping hands to achieve our mission. We welcome adult and youth volunteers on flexible schedules, from one-time and occasional opportunities to regular shifts.

As a volunteer with Initiative, you may: 

Homeless Services 

• Sort and deliver donated items to participating families 
  
• Prepare a single-family house for a homeless family, including painting, light carpentry and exterior beautification
  
• Videotape practice interviews as program participants learn interview skills

Rental Housing 

• Play bingo or other games with seniors at Magnolia Circle Apartments
  
• Teach beginner computer skills at an Initiative apartment complex
  
• Beautify the exterior of an Initiative apartment complex

Main Office

• Answer phones and assist with filing 
  
• Coordinate donation pick-ups and volunteer events

• Sort and cut donated clothing and fabric at the weavehouse
• Lead professional classes for weavers
• Conduct a materials donation drive with your company, school or friends to provide textiles for weaving production
• Set up a fabric-cutting or tag-making station at your home or workplace
