Homeless Supportive Services Provided by Initiative for Affordable Housing

The three full-time social service providers at Initiative for Affordable Housing use the agency’s unique ownership of 375 units of affordable single- and multi-family homes to help the families in its homeless program to stabilize their lives and become self-sufficient members of the community once again.

Initiative’s dual roles as owner/manager of a substantial number of affordable housing units in the community on the one hand, and provider of in-depth, hands-on social services on the other make it unique in the larger community. Our services include:

Case Management by Experienced Social Workers
• Initial intake and evaluation; assessment of family’s coping skills
• Plan of action, with time-lines, to outline family’s short and long-term goals
• Progress measured and barriers hindering achievement of goals evaluated quarterly
• On-site counseling regarding resources and programs at multi-family complexes

Life-Enrichment Training
• Debt repayment plans; creating realistic budget plans
• Parenting and household management skills
• Workplace skills; career assessment
• Dressing for success

Special Resources
• Transportation cards
• Subsidies for safe, quality childcare
• Individual/family therapy
• Furnishings, food vouchers, cleaning supplies

Home Ownership
• Paycheck savings plan
• Low-interest loan opportunities
• Home-buyers orientation education
• Post-home-buyer counseling
